IRVINE COMMUNITY SPORTS CLUB RECEIVES FREE CONNECTIVITY FROM VODAFONE TO HELP TACKLE DIGITAL EXCLUSION IN NORTH AYRSHIRE

Irvine Community Sports Club today announced it will be using free connectivity, via Vodafone’s charities.connected initiative, to tackle digital exclusion in North Ayrshire.  Irvine Community Sports Club will use the connectivity to: provide digital connectivity to 5,000 local residents within North Ayrshire, 1,500 sim cards will be provided for use by the those suffering from physical, mental and addiction abuse issues.  In this time of uncertainty, with the cost-of-living crisis meaning that there is already 6 million people who can no longer afford telephone or online connectivity we have chosen to make this a priority, we are providing 3,500 sim cards for use by anyone experiencing hardship. The connectivity is set to benefit 5,0000 in North Ayrshire.

Vodafone’s charities.connected initiative is open to any registered charity that would benefit from free connectivity, either to improve its digital capability, extend its services or help the individuals and families it supports get online. Registered charities across North Ayrshire can apply for the free connectivity, in the form of SIM cards with 20GB data a month, plus free calls and texts, for six months [here].

Charity quote: Glen Russell, Manager at Irvine Community Sports Club said “Whilst we’ve faced challenges during the pandemic, we’ve also realised the huge benefits that digital technology and connectivity can bring, enabling us to reach more people and provide them with much-needed support. The free connectivity via Vodafone’s charities.connected initiative has helped us continue this work through our TimeToTalk training and wellbeing support and assistance.  With the cost of living gripping our nation, we know that people require more help than ever before, and as a club at the heart of our community, we will help our community by using this latest donation of cards by Vodafone to help reach those who are most at need at this time.  Digital Connectivity is a lifeline towards support, employment, family and friends and we believe that at this time of uncertainty that this is one of the most important rights of our population.  We will continue to work with our partners to help increase the opportunities available to create a stronger, more resilient community.

Emma Reynolds, Head of Communications, Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs at Vodafone UK said:

“We are committed to tackling digital exclusion.  We hope that by providing free connectivity to Irvine Community Sports Club and the other amazing charities across the UK who have such an enormous impact on their local communities, we can help create a more inclusive digital society.  We urge any organisation who thinks they can benefit to apply online and look forward to hearing how this connectivity has helped.”

Vodafone’s charities.connected initiative is part of its commitment to tackle digital exclusion and connect one million people by the end of 2022
